Alpha Phi Eta Mu Chapter ~ Marquette
Five Reasons Your Daughter Should Pledge Alpha Phi
1. Academics
Your daughter is a potential member because her scholastic record brought her
to an institution with an Alpha Phi chapter. We want to support your daughter’
s vision to excel and to be a leader in and out of the classroom. College is about
learning theories and facts, but also a time to learn about yourself. We strive to
foster a community of creativity and good scholarship for all of our sisters, in
all aspects of their collegiate experience.
2. Commitment
Alpha Phi is committed to your daughter’s membership experience. Our
Founders’ vision was to create a women’s organization based on sisterhood,
scholarship and service. We hold each of these tenants true today in all that we
do and commit to you. We try to bring dedicated women into our chapter, to
further its growth and excellence.
3. Sisterhood
The bonds of friendship tie each of our members together during college and
post-graduate years. It is the friendships formed that lead to smiles, laughter,
tears and ultimately memories your daughter will cherish for a lifetime. In
Alpha Phi, it is the individual that makes the difference in the experience –
and a collection of brilliant individuals leads to the experience of a lifetime.
4. Tradition
Alpha Phi was founded in 1872 by 10 of the first women to enter Syracuse
University in Syracuse, N.Y. When they were denied entrance to men’s
fraternities, they created their own and began a path of sisterhood and
friendship that holds 133 years of cherished traditions. Each chapter upholds
these traditions, while also valuing customs created by the founders of their
own chapters. While each member experiences their present fraternity, it is our
past sisterhood that bind us all together.
5. Watchcare
Watchcare began with our Founders, who bonded together to support each
other for mutual growth. Watchcare has three components: the preservation of
human dignity, risk management and the development of solid values and
ethics to help our members make appropriate decisions. This involves
everything from helping others keep their grades up, to making sure each sister
has a safe walk home. Watchcare offers the foundation for our members that
hand in hand we will stay safe and grow to meet our highest potential.
Welcome Parents!
We love that your daughter is thinking about us or has joined our Fraternity.
We understand those of you with questions so we are here to do our best and
answer them!
About Us
Are you new to sorority life at Marquette University? Well we want to assure you that
your daughter will love it and the companionship it offers. We have leadership
positions, we plan events, we serve the community, but above all, Alpha Phi enhances
the college experience.
HISTORY
We have been a social sorority on campus since 1989, and since then, we have
established ourselves with a credible reputation through our high membership
numbers. We spend every year hosting events to raise money for our philanthropy of
Cardiac Care. Heart disease is the number one killer in women, so you can expect
your daughter to aid in fundraising over $13,000 per year to support the cause.
There is a lot of planning that goes into events such as the Red Dress Gala in the fall
and the Red Dress Luncheon in the spring. Both of these events promote the Go Red
for Women campaign. Loved ones of our members are more than welcome to attend
and participate. For example, You!
LEADERSHIP
The Alpha Phi Fraternity on Marquette University’s campus is involved in many
various organizations on campus and is continuously diversifying and broadening
their horizons. As individuals or as groups, we have women working on O-staff, in the
MU Student Government office, at Marquette Event Management, and participating in
Relay for Life, Hunger Clean-Up, Al’s Run, and other campus events.
Our established organization also gives women a chance to lead from within. We have
a democratic election for over 12 positions and over 15 appointed positions. If your
young lady is already an Alpha Phi, then she most likely already has these leadership
qualities and we are excited for her membership future! She very well could be our
next president…
EVENTS
Alpha Phi holds events of our own on campus that support the Marquette Community
as a whole. Our All You Can Eat Tacos fundraiser brings in over 500 Marquette
students who support our philanthropy of cardiac care. We also host Cardiac Arrest;
which involves the entire community and has become one of our biggest fundraisers
as we arrest any and all students, faculty, and staff who wish to participate for a great
cause. It has become a campus favorite and we are proud to host it every spring. Our
healthy bake sales support our philanthropy and the health of our fellow students,
faculty, and staff as well. Our Red Dress Gala and Luncheon is open to the female
student body who wish to support our philanthropy and are excellent ways to get the
word out about the number one killer in women: Heart Disease.
Our Cardiac Care Month also welcomes all mothers, sisters, and female friends to our
Red Dress Luncheon the first weekend in March to enjoy in a classy dining event with
a fashion show full of Alpha Phi's who model Red Dresses down the runway! The Alpha
Phi chapter supports the Marquette community because we encourage participation
and entertain with our Jump For Beats jump rope event and Teeter-Totter-A-Thon.
SCHOLARSHIP
We have scholarships given to excelling students from our National Headquarters
every year. We host study hours weekly so school always comes first. We currently
hold the highest average G.P.A. on campus for the second year in a row with an
average of 3.2.
Our members are smart, social women who stand out among peers. We have leaders
both within and outside Alpha Phi, but more importantly, we encourage further
involvement throughout campus. Alpha Phi is a part of the college experience. As two
A-Phi's writing this to you now, Alpha Phi has changed our lives and the women we
have met will be our friends always.
OUR FAMILY
As a member of Alpha Phi, your daughter will find a family away from home in our
Big/Lil program. We all get so excited to choose who will be our mentor and Big Sister
throughout our 4 years in college. Bonds are formed and we end up with a large
family, connected by an unknown bond of role models and friendship.
