Alpha Phi was established at Syracuse University in 1872 by a group of women
who recognized the need for a network which would allow them to promote
lifetime sisterhood, cultivate leadership, encourage intellectual curiousity, and
advocate public service.
Alpha Phi was the first sorority to establish a national foundation. The Alpha
Phi Foundation provides financial assistance to alumni during times of crisis
and special need. For example, when Alpha Phi alumni were affected by
Hurricane Katrina, the Alpha Phi Foundation provided financial support.
Within a decade, Alpha Phi became the first women's fraternity in America to
build and occupy its own chapter house. In 1902, Alpha Phi called the
inter-sorority meeting that formed the National Panhellenic Conference. Alpha
Phi has consistently served as a model for the Greek community by setting
many precedents. Alpha Phi was the first sorority to utilize Greek letters,
establish traveling delegates, build a sorority house, publish a full length
history, and create a website.

The Marquette sorority life?
We have 5 social sororities on campus: Alpha Phi, Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Xi
Delta, Pi Beta Phi, and Sigma Kappa. Each one is a member of our Panhellenic
council of the Marquette Greek System, following the same guidelines to keep
our community unified.
What are Alpha Phi's events about?
Every Alpha Phi chapter across the country supports the philanthropy of
Cardiac Care. We host an all you can eat taco event called Alpha Phiesta along
with a Red Dress Gala auction in the fall. In the spring, your mothers, aunts
and sisters are welcome to join us for our Red Dress Luncheon fundraiser and
Cardiac Arrest in the spring. We host these events to raise money in order to
stop the number one killer in women: Heart Disease.
Why Go Greek?
Deciding whether to join a social Greek organization is a personal choice that
everyone needs to make for themselves. Though, once you have decided on the
right fit for you, you will never want to look back. Your college experience will
be one bursting with friends, fun, and campus involvement.
Why Go Alpha Phi?
Alpha Phi is a sisterhood of women who strive for the best in themselves and
the best in others around them. Upon joining Alpha Phi you will find yourself
amongst some of the most amazing role models of your lifetime, and
surrounded by unspeakable friendships. While learning more about your
sisters, you will learn more about yourself and how far your drive and quality
will take you at Marquette, and beyond.
Community Service?
Are you a fan of raking and doing chores for your dad at home? Not much fun is
it? Well, we have a great time doing it with our sisters, cleaning up our
community with Make A Difference Day and Hunger Clean-Up. We also have
teams set up for Al's Run and Walk every year. We also have members with
loved ones fighting cancer in Relay for Life. This past year we had over 3
teams of 12 women walk through the night during the cancer fundraiser at
Valley Fields.
Leadership?
We have 8 Executive Board positions and over 15 appointed positions for you
to hold throughout the year. Alpha Phi also gives you the opportunity to join
in campus-wide leadership positions.
Dues?
Your 1st semester as an Alpha Phi is $465.00 and each semester is $267.75
with no other incurred costs throughout the year. We have payment plans
available as well.
Alpha Phi House?
Our house will be brand new this fall and we are really excited about moving in
on the 1st of August. Newly renovated for our chapter, you can find us at 1435
W. Kilbourne Ave. It will be the new home of 23 of our ladies.
Campus Involvement?
We love when our girls are involved in other events on campus, so naturally
Alpha Phi gets involved as well. We add our many numbers to events such as
Hunger Clean-Up, Al's Run, and Make A Difference Day. The Greek community
provides the extra hands that help make these events a success. The
community also participates in Greek Events such as Greek Week, Greek
Bowling, exchanges, all-Greek parties, barbecues and picnics.
Recruitment?
Informal recruitment is every fall starting in early September. Only certain
chapters are able to participate according to the number of women in their
chapters. Please go online to www.mugreeklife.org for more information or keep
a look out for registration information in the AMU. Two or more events are
hosted by each chapter for you to attend to find your fit in the Marquette
Greek community!
Formal recruitment begins the second week of second semester every year. It
consists of 4 fun nights of getting-to-know Alpha Phi and all the other chapters
on campus. Hosted in the AMU, it is the largest social sorority event of the
year. Sign-ups can be as late as last minute, so keep a look out for tables in
your Residence Halls and signs to register if you are interested in checking it
out!
